Headline Writing 101

by justmy2 @ 8/03/2004 11:27:00 PM

I sometimes wonder if the CNN.com staff actually attended journalism school. I know headlines are meant to grab attention, but is it reasonable to at least have a headline that relates to the story. Is that too much to ask?

From CNN.com...

GOP says Kerry getting 'extreme makeover'

Aside from the fact that the headline is today's number one GOP talking point (I promise you will hear it 30 times in the next day if you happen to have your television on a news channel), wouldn't it be fair to assume the article would relate to the headline subject. Silly me. You have to go to paragraph 17 of a 19 paragraph report before they even touch on the subject of the headline. Huh?

The story is actually about Republican plans for the week, basically rehashing the morning emails sent to CNN by the RNC.

The SCLM in action....
